En 1919, au plus fort d’une crise mondiale résultant de la tourmente de la Révolution russe, de la dévastation de la Première Guerre mondiale et de l’effondrement des grands empires continentaux de l’Europe, l’écrivain irlandais William Butler Yeats a écrit son célèbre avertissement à l’humanité, pleurant la fin de l’ancien monde : « Les choses s’effondrent ; le centre ne peut pas tenir ; La simple anarchie se déchaîne sur le monde »1 .
In 1919, at the height of a global crisis that resulted from the turmoil of the Russian Revolution, the devastation of the first world war, and the collapse of Europe’s great continental empires, Irish writer William Butler Yeats penned his famed warning to humanity, mourning the end of the old world: “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold / Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.”
