Klimaatbeweging Extinction Rebellion mag opkrassen uit zaal 1 van het SMAK in Gent. Het museum had die ruimte voor drie weken toegezegd aan de activisten, maar nu duidelijk wordt dat de geweldloze bezetting van een stuk autostrade voorbereid werd, spreekt museumdirecteur Phillipe Van Cauteren van een vertrouwensbreuk. In het Gentse leeft de indruk dat bevoegd schepen Sami Souguir (Open Vld) een vorm van druk zou uitgeoefend hebben.

The climate protest group Extinction Rebellion is shifting tactics from disruptions such as smashing windows and glueing themselves to public places in 2023, it has announced. A new year resolution to “prioritise attendance over arrest and relationships over roadblocks”, was spelled out in a 1 January statement titled “We quit”, which said “constantly evolving tactics is a necessary approach”.

Le 23 août, le mouvement Extinction Rebellion a inauguré à Londres son « impossible rébellion ». Prévues pour durer quinze jours dans la capitale britannique, ces actions entendent interpeller la classe politique sur l’urgence climatique.
