UN Climate Change News, 14 November 2023 – A new report from UN Climate Change finds national climate action plans remain insufficient to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. Even with increased efforts by some countries, the report shows much more action is needed now to bend the world’s emissions trajectory further downward and avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

The UN Climate Change secretariat’s 2022 Annual Report highlights achievements and milestones by the secretariat and the intergovernmental Process in addressing the climate emergency, and towards achieving the long-term objectives of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The 2022 edition covers the historic decision taken at COP27 to establish a dedicated fund and funding arrangements for addressing loss and damage, stepping up adaptation and transparency support, and the logistical operations that went into organizing COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh – among the largest climate change conferences to date. UN Climate Change News, 26 October 2022 – A new report from UN Climate Change shows countries are bending the curve of global greenhouse gas emissions downward but underlines that these efforts remain insufficient to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

This report synthesizes information from the 166 latest available nationally determined contributions communicated by 193 Parties to the Paris Agreement and recorded in the registry of nationally determined contributions as at 23 September 2022.

Les délégués à la Conférence de Bonn sur les changements climatiques ont conclu hier le premier dialogue technique sur le bilan mondial, un processus essentiel à la fois pour la mise en œuvre de l'Accord de Paris et pour aider à fixer le cap d'une action climatique ambitieuse.

ONU Climat a publié aujourd'hui une synthèse des plans d'action pour le climat tels que communiqués dans les contributions déterminées au niveau national (NDC) des pays. Le rapport de synthèse des NDC indique que si la tendance est clairement à la réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre au fil du temps, les nations doivent redoubler leurs efforts d'urgence en matière de climat si elles veulent empêcher que la température mondiale n'augmente au-delà de l'objectif de maximum 2°C, idéalement 1,5°C, fixé par l'Accord de Paris, d'ici la fin du siècle.

Dans un contexte d'insécurité alimentaire croissante due aux changements climatiques, les experts se sont efforcés d'identifier les moyens de parvenir à une gestion plus durable des terres et de l'eau lors de la conférence virtuelle d’ONU Climat de mai – juin qui prend fin aujourd’hui. Ces solutions vont de la récupération des terres par l'agroforesterie et l'introduction d'espèces végétales fixatrices d'azote à la gestion intégrée des bassins versants qui tient compte des connaissances traditionnelles et autochtones.
