L'Organisation mondiale de la santé a déclaré jeudi la fin de l'épidémie de virus de Marburg en Guinée équatoriale, quatre mois après les premiers cas dans ce petit pays d'Afrique centrale. Ce "cousin" d'Ebola a fait 12 morts confirmés et 23 probablement dus à la maladie.

En un mois, neuf personnes sont mortes de cette maladie dans l’est du pays, et seize cas suspects ont été signalés.

Entre 1990 et 2020, 220 millions d’hectares de forêts tropicales et équatoriales humides ont été déforestés. Soit 17 % de la superficie totale de ces milieux riches en biodiversité. Publiés le 5 mars dans la revue Science Advances, ces chiffres sont le résultat d’analyses des images de trois satellites d’observation de la Terre appartenant à la Nasa. Étudiées conjointement par des scientifiques du Centre commun de recherche (JRC), du Cirad, du Cifor et de l’INPE, elles ont permis d’établir que la déforestation avait été grandement sous-estimée dans les précédents travaux.
