9 landen, waaronder België, gaan samen met bedrijven 1 biljoen euro investeren in de bouw van nieuwe windturbineparken in de Noordzee. Dat hebben ze aangekondigd op de Noordzeetop in Hamburg. Het doel is om tegen 2050 8 keer zo veel windenergie te kunnen opwekken als nu, om zo minder afhankelijk te worden van landen zoals Rusland of de Verenigde Staten.

Vorig jaar is in de Europese Unie meer stroom opgewekt uit wind- en zonne-energie dan uit fossiele brandstoffen zoals steenkool en gas. Dat blijkt uit een nieuw rapport van de energiedenktank Ember. Het gaat om een primeur.
