David Van Reybrouck is archeoloog, filosoof, schrijver en sinds februari, de eerste Denker der Nederlanden. Dat is een breuk met zijn zeven voorgangers. Zij waren allemaal Denker des Vaderlands, een wat oubollig begrip en Nederlands initiatief. Van Reybrouck ziet zichzelf liever als Vérdenker der Nederlanden. Vérdenken is naar het heden kijken vanuit het verre verleden en vanuit de verre toekomst. In zijn zeer lezenswaardig essay ligt het accent op de moderne ongeveer 400 jaar oude diplomatie die faalt bij het oplossen van de klimaatcrisis. Er is een andere aanpak nodig.
