Wereldwijd gebruiken landbouwers steeds vaker plastic folies om de bodem af te dekken. Een praktijk met heel wat voordelen, maar ook een die plastic deeltjes in de bodem brengt. Biologisch afbreekbare landbouwplastics lijken een oplossing, al hebben ze een grotere impact op het bodemleven dan gangbare plastic folies.

Bamboe kent heel wat toepassingen, en binnenkort komt plastic daar mogelijk ook bij. Een nieuwe kunststof op basis van bamboevezels scoort beter dan gewoon plastic qua sterkte en thermische stabiliteit, en is op de koop toe afbreekbaar op amper 50 dagen tijd.

Vandaag begint in Genève een 10-daagse VN-top over het aanpakken van plasticvervuiling.
